Airlines were expecting major delays in the security lines at airports today due to the backlash of public opinion regarding the backscatter scanners at the checkpoints. For anyone who has been keeping up with the news there is quite a lot of controversy about how much radiation a person gets when they go through one of these scanners. Many people don’t have a clue as to what they are being exposed to as witnessed by one person’s remark:
“You just go in the scanner and it feels very safe,” said Will Simonini, 66, of St. Pete Beach, Florida, who was checked today as he headed to Philadelphia to see his son.
Evidently he is ignorant of what radiation really is. Perhaps he thought it was going to feel like electrocution or something. This just goes to show you the level of dumb acceptance by some of the general public regarding anything the government or anyone else tells them.
